The Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) has a state-wide education and training unit which has an important role to increase community knowledge and skills and challenge the myths surrounding sexual assault, rape and sexual abuse. As part of the WACOSS Pilbara Project and based on Community Sector feedback, SARC have been engaged to deliver the “Addressing Trauma in the Workplace” to Social Service Managers and Team Leaders in 3 Pilbara locations; Karratha, South Hedland and Newman.

Identified topics for the workshops are as follows:

  • The possible impacts of trauma work on workers who have a trauma history.
  • The vicarious risks for workers who work with traumatised clients.
  • Risk factors that make workers more vulnerable.
  • Challenges for Managers.
  • Personal and organisational symptoms of vicarious trauma.
  • Strategies for Managers to support workers.
  • Organisational audit and goal setting.
