WACOSS Conference 2018 Copy

We would like to invite you to be a part of the WACOSS Conference 2018, Making PLACE to be held on 2 – 3 May 2018.

The biennial conference will feature a full and dynamic program to meet the diverse interests and professional requirements of the multitude of people working in our sector, from front line staff, to policy makers, senior managers, and board members.

We have chosen Making PLACE as the central theme for the conference because our place in society has a significant influence on our experiences. Place affects our health, welfare, security, and contentment. Place is where we are and where we want to be. It is where we struggle and where we dream. Where we build and where we join together. It is about our connection to country and communities of solidarity. Place can be the foundation for a shared community vision, an agreement that ensure everyone’s wellbeing. It can also become the basis of inequality and marginalisation, when people are excluded from and struggle to find a place on the fringe.

The Making PLACE conference is the chance for us to have conversations about how we can overcome the challenges of place and make place better. It will also be an opportunity to showcase and learn from place-based initiatives already begun, and champion place into the future.

We look forward to seeing you there.
