Background
Fair Food WA (FFWA) is a network of not-for-profit organisations (including the food relief sector), research institutes, advocacy groups, relevant government agencies, and peak bodies working together to address food insecurity in Western Australia (WA). FFWA is generously supported by Lotterywest.
FFWA have a vision for a WA food system that provides all people with equitable access to healthy and affordable food.
Our purpose is to:
- Address food insecurity in Western Australia;
- Advocate for the needs of consumers of food relief, including access to safe, dignified, nutritious and culturally appropriate food; and
- Represent the interests of the food relief sector and contribute to improved outcomes across the food system.
Following an intersectoral roundtable hosted by Premier McGowan in early 2020, the group rebranded as Fair Food WA and applied the Framework’s findings in practical ways throughout COVID‑19 and multiple disaster events.
Originally established in 2017 as the Food Relief Planning Group, FFWA was created to develop a strategic charity food relief framework for Western Australia. The group launched the WA Food Relief Framework in 2019, generating a range of solutions‑focused outcomes for the state’s charity and food relief sector.
In recognition of its collaborative impact, FFWA received the Moore Australia (WA) Gold Award for Best Practice in Collaboration Between Government and Any Other Organisation at the 2021 IPAA Awards.
