WA Community Relief and Resilience services receive Lotterywest Grant
December 6, 2017
The Honourable Minister Simone McGurk MLA has presented a Lotterywest grant to WACOSS on behalf of the community services sector, for the development of a sector-run, state-wide Food Relief Framework.
The contribution will support the current community relief and resilience sector, leverage existing providers’ work, expand on collaboration between providers, and building capacity within the sector.
The project comes off the back of recent research, which shows that many Western Australians are food insecure, particularly those who have been placed in a vulnerable position, and will enable them to source food in an accessible and dignified way.
“It is so positive to have the support of Minister McGurk, and we thank Lotterywest for the grant, for their ongoing support to the community services, and the community relief and resilience sector, and understanding need for this project for those in the community who are facing food insecurity,” said Jennie Gray, Deputy CEO.
The framework project will be led by an external consultant, who will work with food relief providers, will help providers continue to provide access to food for people in need.
